On 1 October 2025, the time will have come: Tim and Niklas will be holding a workshop in Hamburg at Tincon 2025 on the topic of ‘Web security from the perspective of (ethical) hackers’. Preparations are already in full swing, and both workshop slots are already fully booked.
What is Tincon?
TINCON (Youth Network Conference) is a gathering dedicated to young people’s digital culture. It focuses particularly on young people aged between 13 and 25. It was launched in Berlin in 2016 and now frequently takes place in other cities such as Hamburg and Düsseldorf. The programme includes talks, workshops, discussions and activities on topics such as the internet, games, politics, coding, media, sustainability, music, activism and digital society.
What makes it special is that the content is created by young people for young people; TINCON sees itself as a blend of festival, conference and community platform, with a focus on learning, experimentation and networking. Admission is usually free for young people, with funding provided by partners, foundations and sponsorship schemes.
About the workshop
Under the title ‘Web Security from the Perspective of (Ethical) Hackers’, Tim and Niklas will take participants on a journey into the world of ethical hacking. They will demonstrate how security vulnerabilities in websites arise in the first place, why they pose such a significant risk, and how hackers might exploit them in practice.
SQL injection
Explained in theory and clearly demonstrated in Live-Hacking demos.
Cross-Site Scripting (XSS)
How malicious scripts are injected into websites and what damage they can cause.
Session Hijacking
How attackers can take over other users’ sessions and impersonate them.
This immediately illustrates how attackers operate and just how significant the impact of seemingly minor vulnerabilities can be.
Hands-on and ethical responsibility
It’s not just about watching: the workshop is deliberately designed to be hands-on. In secure, specially prepared practice environments, participants can get involved themselves and try out their first steps in Penetration Testing. The aim is to develop an understanding of how hackers think, whilst at the same time learning which methods can be used to protect oneself effectively. In this way, the young people not only gain a basic understanding of IT security, but also practical insights that are immediately useful in everyday life, for example when dealing with passwords, websites or apps.
Another key focus is on the ethical dimension of hacking. Tim and Niklas explain why it is important to report security vulnerabilities responsibly (Responsible Disclosure) and what role security experts play in our digitalised society. For many young people, the workshop could also provide the initial impetus to pursue cybersecurity either professionally or as a hobby.
Participation and registration
Entry to TINCON is free for anyone under 26. However, as places on the workshop are limited, advance registration is required. Anyone who decides to attend at the last minute may be able to secure a place if someone else withdraws, but it is safer to book early.
